THE CURSE OF TUTANKHAMUN
The curse of the pharaohs or the mummy's curse is a curse alleged to be cast upon anyone who disturbs the mummy of an ancient Egyptian, especially a pharaoh. This curse, which does not differentiate between thieves and archaeologists, is claimed to cause bad luck, illness, or death.
One such curse was made by one of the ancient famous pharaoh Tutankhamun...
Tutankhamun , was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh who was the last of his royal family to rule during the end of the 18th Dynasty during the New Kingdom of Egyptian history. His father was the pharaoh Akhenaten, believed to be the mummy found in the tomb KV55.
The "mummy's curse" first enjoyed worldwide acclaim after the 1922 discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings near Luxor, Egypt. When Howard Carter opened a small hole to peer inside the tomb at treasures hidden for 3,000 years, he also unleashed a global passion for ancient Egypt...
I know that most of you will not believe it as a curse and would think it to be just some coincidence... But some incidents which had happened after opening and excavating TUTANKHAMUN'S tomb, which would surely create a shocking state in your minds... The first incident occurred with the death of "LORD CARNARVON":-
"GEORGE HERBERT"(lord carnarvon)
The man who financed the excavation of King Tut's tomb was the first to succumb to the supposed curse. Lord Carnarvon accidentally tore open a mosquito bite while shaving and ended up dying of blood poisoning shortly thereafter. This occurred a few months after the tomb was opened and a mere six weeks after the press started reporting on the "mummy's curse," which was thought to afflict anyone associated with disturbing the mummy. Legend has it that when Lord Carnarvon died, all of the lights in EGYPT mysteriously went out. And at a distance of 10000 miles from Egypt in Europe the pet dog of HERBERT also mysteriously shout out and had then gone to death at the same time... This was considered as the power of (TUTANKHAMUN)
Other Alleged victims of the curse included Prince Ali Kamel Fahmy Bey of Egypt, (shot dead by his wife in 1923); Sir Archibald Douglas Reid, who supposedly X-rayed the mummy and died mysteriously in 1924; Sir Lee Stack, the governor-general of the Sudan, who was assassinated in Cairo in 1924; Arthur Mace of Carter’s excavation team, said to have died of arsenic poisoning in 1928; Carter’s secretary Richard Bethell, who supposedly died smothered in his bed in 1929; and his father, who committed suicide in 1930.
Birth of the Curse
The late Egyptologist Dominic Montserrat conducted a comprehensive search and concluded that the concept began with a strange "striptease" in 19th-century London.
Montserrat told the Independent (U.K.) in an interview some years before his own death that
"My work shows quite clearly that the mummy's curse concept predates Carnarvon's Tutankhamen discovery and his death followed by others burials in the recent hundred years,"
Now let me put some of my ideology towards this matter... According to me, the earlier scripts of Egyptian writings derived from the isolated tombs few miles beyond the excavation place of TUTANKHAMUN'S TOMB... This writings and drawings were actually found in a cat's body who was seen to be the protector of TUTANKHAMUN'S treasury... It was found that the death of TUTANKHAMUN took place because of a vicious blow at the back of Tut's head and this assaissation was made by an astute politician and commoner who wanted to gain the power and Become the next king...
This brutal death incident of TUTANKHAMUN reflected the political greediness prevalant during those time also... And it was also found that ancient EGYPT priests dealth with the curse to be one of the greatest power which shows king Tut's great consciousness and it was felt that the curse would prevail onto those people who tries to deal with the mummy more... Some other writings weren't till now unearthed out but it seems that it might also deal onto some more curses regarding the king...
So finally we can conclude that the mystery related to the curse of TUT is mostly solved and generally the Curses seen after the Old Kingdom era are less common though more severe, sometimes invoking the ire of Thoth or the destruction of Sekhemet... Zahi Hawass quotes an example of a curse:
"Cursed be those who disturb the rest of a Pharaoh. They that shall break the seal of this tomb shall meet death by a disease that no doctor can diagnose."
